TV-out on laptop

    Yes, another laptop thread.

I have a laptop with S-video out, problem is my TV only has SCART. Got a S-video to Scart lead (40 bloody Euro in Dixons) but it only displays the picture on the TV in black and white.

Here's what I've got so far:

    - S-video to SCART -> black and white on two different TV's
    - S-video to S-video -> works fine in colour (on friends TV)
    - S-video to RCA (the red/white/yellow connectors) to SCART -> black and white

I have messed around with the display settings, ensuring it is set to PAL, switched the TV from secondary to primary display, etc.

Anyone got any ideas how I can get a colour output on my TV? It's a relatively new (2-3 years old) Phillips.

I've a feeling there'll be a few games under the tree on Saturday and I want to be able to play them on the TV. biggrin.gif

    Read this ...

Since SCART only supports composite this might work (available from PEATS in Dublin)

Brilliant - so it's not just me. Thanks for those links. Dixons had a PC to TV connectivity pack, with an S-video convertor, but I don't know if it is worth the risk again.

/me wonders why Google didn't return those links when I did a search.

Lidl and Aldi recently carried some videosender gadgets which I use to hook up my laptop's audio and video to our main TV. Around the €40 mark.

Whats the quality like. Maplins also do these but they are more expensive. About 99 I think.

It's pretty good. If somebody walks between the receiver and the transmitter there's a bit of snow. But you can usually position the pair so that this is minimal. I too had seen these for €100+ so I thought it was a good deal.

No, not yet. I will try returning the SCART lead to Dixons after Christmas and order that one off the link you posted.

I'll let you know how I get on.

hey i tried that adapter from svideo.com place and it was the same as one you'd get in Maplins/Peats etc and it didn't work. Like I said It could be that the TV is too old...

on my toshiba it's function+F5 - there's usually a function button for the display and you can press it a few times to go through the differnt display options. My laptop won't give you the option of TV out unless it's plugged into the tv...
Hey I jst had a thought!! My tv has a separate scart and svid option - i have the press the button twice to get laptop, ps2 etc in colour....try pressing the button again!!

should be in the advanced settings under windows' "display" control panel.
On mine i have to go to advanced, then in there i choose the "displays" tab (its one of the ATI tabs), and click an on/off type button beside the TV icon.
actually, I think i can also press FN-F4 or something like that.
might wanna read the manual :P
