Which Laptop?

Thinking about heading to Australia in the new year and don't fancy lugging my desktop around with me, so I'll be needing a laptop.

I don't want anything crazy cause I'm kind of on a budget here (1300-1500 max) but I do like to play the odd game (UT2004, HL2) so I'll be needing a half decent graphics card.

I was looking at some Sony VAIOs and they look ok, wondering what the hardware support is like.

Can anyone recommend one for me?

    Cheers!

Sorry forgot to mention! I'll be running Linux on it exclusively so I'm most concerned about hardware compatability.

It was pretty obvious that was the case.

basically in my opinion there are 2 manufacturers

    toshiba and sony

both work well in linux, make sure to get a good graphics card, none of this ati mobility crap or nvidia mx.

get a proper nvidia card if possible.
have a look at the alsa list of audio cards too and see if it properly supported. Not sure if you will be able to get a sound card with a hardware mixer, although you could always buy one of those creative external usb cards.

A decent spec sony vaio will do the job nicely.
