Just bought a 12 inch lappy from Germany from Cyberport.de, the Cebop Mex 100

Same thing as the likes of the alienware sentia (alienware didn't actually design it, they just put some rubber, paint and glowing eyes on it). Companies such as Xeron, Uniwill etc. rebrand em as well. Though I haven't found any but the sentia available in this country.

    1.7 GHz (2 MB cache FSB400 Dothan),
    512 MB DDR333 RAM,
    80 GB HD,
12.1 Zoll WXGA Widescreen TFT Display,
    DVD+/-RW Dual DVD Burner,
    Modem, 10/100 LAN,
    WLAN 802.11b/g,
    Firewire,
    2x USB2.0, VGA,
    4-in-1 Card Reader,
    Weighs 1.95kg
Smart Power II - 4 hours battery life allegedly
PowerCinema - you can play a dvd or cd or whatever without booting into windows

Costs over 1800 from alienware, just over 1100 with cyberport.de

They also got some other nice priced laptops from cebop and the rest of their stuff is quite competitive.

Intel 855GME Extreme Graphics 2 shared VRAM

Great price, but the downside is that it seems you're stuck with a German keyboard.

sounds good alright. I went to buy a FS Amilo a 1630 from them but they wanted a photocopy of my credit card, and I have no scanner/photocopier/fax so had to cancel the order.
Did you have to do the same?

Decent prices on some stuff. Whats the warranty on that laptop? Never heard of Cebop before. Any links to reviews? What made you buy that one as opposed to a more well known make. Just price?

I just moved to Germany a few months ago and am looking for a new laptop, this is some savage spec for the price of it. The warranty looks like 2 years pick up and return, not too bad..... let us know what you make of it once you get it...

... on another note, german keyboards arent so bad, the z and y keys are reversed and theres some german letter keys but i'm sure you could order the right buttons from somewhere and change the keys via the keyboard settings?

Yeah, anything sold in Germany has to have two years warrenty, it's why you see 24 month guarentees on phones from germany sold on ebay.

As for cebop, well they just rebrand etc. Alienware have the exact same laptop for example, it's just a rebrand. So looking forward to it. Still waiting on it to ship since I ordered something they didn't have in stock along with it. Will let you all know though.

In relation to the german keyboard you can do a number of things, if you know wherter the keys are already then it doesn't matter as you can use an IE keyboard layout, what i was thinking about though was just going to the art and hobby shop and getting some sticker material that doesn't leave residue and is printable, makeing a few key cut outs and banging that stuff on.

Ah yes, worked out fantastic. It's the business. German keyboard is only problem and european plug that people would really encounter.German keyboard doesn't bother me personally though. It's wonderfully light, quick to boot and so on. The screen is really incredible though. It's like one of the Sony x-black LCDs. Was the thing that impressed me most.

There is one thing though that disappoints. The Pentium M when CD ripping. It doesn't seem to be so talented at it. Either that or I messed up some settings somewhere. I pitched it against two different AMD machines, one laptop and one desktop. They both ripped apart the Pentium M while ripping from iTunes.
