Anybody ****ed off with the lottery? I play it every week with the english slogan in mind ("maybe, just maybe") but the old axiom is true - it's a con on people who are bad at math.

With this lotto plus you seem to get to pay one third extra for a chance to win one quarter as much. rolleyes.gif

I'm glad that they give money to charity out of it but I think they keep way too much for themselves. I'd love to know exactly what percentage of the income actually goes into the "pot". I'd guess at about 30% which is pathetic, but then - it is goverment run.

Ah the National Lottery. Gambling for the foolish and the hopelessly optimistic.

I thought it was supposed to be closer to 50%, no? As for Lotto Plus, I don't really see the point ... if they wanted to do a bonus game, they could have done something better (and more inventive/original) than that.

Then there's the fact that your winnings are completely tax free, but somebody has to pay the tax surely

They don't have to bother with tax since they take so much anyway and it makes it seem like you're winning more.

Richard Branson tried to set up a non-profit lottery in England but couldn't get a license. I wonder why?

its tax free for the first year ie you dont pay Capital Gains Tax on it but after that first year they'll tax you with DIRT (thats if you put it the bank)
