Dell Prices

I was thinking of getting the Dell 20" TFT Monitor.

First I looked at how much it would cost as part of an overall system. So I selected a Dimension XPS system and went to customise it. To upgrade from a 19" CRT to the 20" TFT is as follows
Dell 2001FP 20" UltraSharp™ Flat Panel Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand [add €1,246.30 or €44/month1

Yet if you go to their electronics and accessories section, you can buy the monitor on its own for only €796. So why do users buying full systems have to pay nearly 500 yoyos extra for the monitor???

Also, I wonder would the US Dell site let you place an order considering the same monitor to buy there is ony $799 which is only €600 (I should have bought it while I was over in the US two weeks ago!)

    Hi lynchie,

I guess that when you go away from the norm as in any business the price doubles.....it a marketing thing.

I'd have to disagree with the other posters on junk mail and useless issue...i have 2 dells at the moment and the quality is excellent....and possibly one dell email a week.

I bought an Alienware reciently and and found it a touch better spec than the XPS imo.

I found Dell to be good. I'd recommend them to anyone that dont want to go the custom route.

Frankly i wouldnt touch a Dell XPS with a 100ft barge pole.

You pay 2 grand for a PC thatt comes with a x300se (last i looked anyway) and no monitor!! Sure you get a 'cool' blue case, but if i was spending that money for a cool case i would go Alienware.

If I was going for a high end dell i would look at the one below the XPS, this comes with a monitor (and, unfortunatly, the same crap graphics card) and is a good couple of hundred euros cheaper

Generally if you bundle stuff together, you should (and people assume you will) get stuff for cheaper, obviously this isnt the case here, and dell are taking advantage of this here

    Just my 2c

Dont have a problem with Dells. My main linux box at home is a Dell PowerEdge while my domain controller is a standard Dell Desktop and I havent had a prob with either of em:)

However, I wouldnt use them as my main machine. I agree its good for those who dont like to build it themselves or dont want to vary much from Dell's specs.
I build my own machines always - the only reason I was looking at the XPS was to see how much extra it would cost to upgrade from a 19" CRT to a 20" TFT.

I agree it may be a marketing ploy, but how can they justify selling it as an upgrade for 1200+ while selling it on its own for 800?

On another note, if you look at some of their machines they sell on the outlet store they are actually more expensive than buying the exact same spec from their main store... Bizarre..
