Not advisable I'd say. Going by Gigabyte's site they don't seem to have the same bios.
They are quite close specs-wise, and I know you have the Gigabyte dual bios feature to save you but honestly I wouldn't chance it.
If it is because of an AMD Sempron chip being mis-identified then the F4 version of the GA-7VAX-A adds support for these. See here for that bios.

I'm afraid there is not a lot you can do really as Gigabyte have not released a BIOS for that board since 2003. It shouldn't do any harm as it stands. The Sempron is basically similar to an Athlon Thoroughbred and the clock speed shouldn't be affected by the wrong ident, only the name that is displayed. eg. Athlon 2100 instead of Sempron 2500. Even though a lot of the boards of similar name to this appear to be very alike from looking at details on Gigabyte's website, there are enough small differences that I would be concerned about attempting to cross flash their bios.
For example look at this (GA-7VA-A/your board) and then look at this (GA-7VAX). Everything looks good (the built in ethernet of the GA-7VAX would make no real difference) until you get to the CPU/AGP/DIMM setting part, and here is where problems arise:
    Your board says:
    # CPU FSB adjustable via BIOS (1MHz-linear)
    # CPU Vcore Voltage adjustable via BIOS
    # AGP Voltage / Clock adjustable via BIOS
    # DIMM Voltage / Clock adjustable via BIOS

    The GA-7VAX says:
    # CPU FSB adjustable via BIOS (1MHz-linear)
    # CPU multiplier by DIP Switch
    # CPU Vcore Voltage adjustable via BIOS
    # AGP Voltage : N/A
    # Memory Voltage : N/A

Little differences that could create havoc and there are things like this between all of them. I'd say leave well enough alone. If all that is wrong is the naming of the cpu, and your pc is otherwise stable then why risk it?
