Is anybody else really scared to death ?

Hey,

I got my results last week for my a-levels (like leaving certs and scottish highers) and i do very well, to get a place at Sheffield university to do computer science i needed a C and 2 D's and i got a C and 2 D's , which is nice.

2 days later, i find myself with a stack of papers with "loans" and "fees" and "debt" written on them. then i got my arrival date
the 19th of September. Jesus, i'm 18, and within the next 2 weeks, thousands of pounds will move bewteen hands and i'll be in serious debt. JESUS I'M 18 !!!

surely i should be just lying in bed , not waking up till 1pm, then having some pop tarts and going out and drinking lots of booze and coming home wasted.

i know most of you will say "THATS WHATS UNI FOR" but its gonna be weird, i'm gonna be in another city, 4 hours away from home, having to fend for myself. with numerous amounts of people nagging at my for Loan repayments, and accomadation charges, and bills. and whats worse, i wont have my mom and dad to help me up there, because they'll be 4 hours away.

i suppose i'm just afraid of growing old. i hate the thought of not being able to sit in the house, and do NOTHING. i'm 18 now and i already miss going out and stopping at my friends house playing the mega-drive, doing sleep over in the tents and trying too smoke fags without anyone noticing.

why do we have to grow up ? is what i'm really trying to get across. i dont want to spend my whole life living under a deadline, cos our whole life is a deadline. one day we're gonna be on gods desk at 9am in the morning without fail. and i hate that thought.

At Uni. you can find like-minded individuals in clubs and societys, in my case the juggling-acrobatic-assination club .
Still what I miss about Uni is the 3 month summer holidays.

This is why the Irish Education system rawks - we don't always have to get into such debt to go to college. There are administrative fees in the region of £300 and there there are always gonna be course dependant costs - a lot of this can't be helped I'm sure.

It's a frightening thought to be so young and in so much debt!

Still, don't worry too much Exec T - countless thousands have done it before and will continue to do so for years to come.

its fun really schweetie. I'm sure you'll get a great job when you leave, and the debt will be paid off in no time. PLUS the good thing about the loans is that you dont have to pay them back if you earn less than a certain amount, which increases every year. And if you cant pay it back within, like, 15 years or something, then you dont have to! That's what I'm aiming for!.

Ok , maybe i missed the whole point of this , but i'm in my final year of college now , never got a loan , leech of my parents for rent , shag all ever go into lectures or college for that matter , so far i've been on a 3 year holiday with the odd job thrown in only if i enjoy working where-ever it may be. If you ask me , this is the best time i've ever had so far in my life. Whoever said school days are the best of your life was a dumbass, college days man, the best time you could possibly have standing up and even lying down .... till 3 pm and getting up to drink beer, i mean , cool :P

Oh yes , don't forget , the era of sexual repression in secondary finishes in university and you can finally get some
