    16% nitro

i have no idea if the engine is broke in,

16% nitro is very hot for breaking in a new engine - you run a very high risk of a seize in the event of a stop from med - high throttle. Go easy on it. ;)

can anyone tell me how you stop the car once started.,

Yesterday i got it started and the wheels are spinning like mad,, they wouldnt stop and i wasnt usig the hand control to move them they where going on there own.

so when i pulled the starter cord the car shot off and i couldnt stop it ,

Is the throttle stuck open when you start it up? Are all the electronics on?

Oh and pinch the fuel line to shut off the engine...

Let us know if you get it sorted :)

sorry to sound newbie,, where's the throttle?

It's normally a little armature just under the air filter. You should see it linked to a servo. If you watch the car when you push the throttle leaver up on the rmeote you will see it moving.

i made a few movies to show what happens when i press/pull on the controller thingy....

    www.davidstokes.com/rc/PICT0001.MOV
www.davidstokes.com/rc/PICT0003.MOV there is a thing on the side on the controller when you move it up and down the throttle moves aswell.. no idea why but i filmed it to show aswell.
    www.davidstokes.com/rc/PICT0004.MOV

movies are in the middleof been uploaded, they will be there about 12:40

Ok, well first try to move the pull start thing out of the the way a bit if you can.

Leave the electronics on without moving anything, and remove the air filter. Look inside the carb, there should be a cylinder type thing, make sure that its closed.

Some pics of the carb that might help

    i tok a few pics,

    take a look see

I think you may be in the deep end on this, guessing from the posts above.

How much experience of RC do you have?
If the answer is none , a mini engineering course by correspondence will take a long time, and will be accompanied by many breakages of parts.

Do you have a supplier of parts for the type of car you have got?

As regards settings for tuning .... what make of engine is in your car?

Do any of your friends use RC cars?

In PICT0003.MOV, the slider switch that you are moving seems to be the throttle trim, this is used to set the idle speed for the engine. When you look into the carb the trim should be set so there is only a small opening.

Once you get the car started you can adjust the trim so the engine is running but the car is not running away. Push the throttle in reverse (I think on your controls push the trigger away from you) the carb should close and stop the engine

When you throttle down to idle speed , the brakes should come on simultaneously. (assuming your car is set up correctly)
The servo in the car that applies throttle also releases the brakes when you accellerate.... :)

Keep us posted on progress (or lack of) and we'll help with some answers ...

BTW There is a lot of car engine tuning and settings information here ...

it might be helpful to you during the "getting it going right" stage.

To stop it cover the exhaust with a piece of cloth, or your finger.
Assuming your problem is just stopping the engine from running?

  • Registered Users Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Kazujo

Dont cover the exhaust with your finger it will burn!!! you can cover the air intake and that will choke the engine.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

If the air filter is off the carb, place a finger over the air inlet.
On the other hane, if the air filte ris in place pinch the fuel tubing to block off the fuel.

Best of all, set it up so precisely that the throttle from the radio goes from idle to top...but with the throttle at lowest (stick down) AND the throttle trim also down, it cuts your engine from the radio by RC command.

When I said cover the exhaust, I obviously meant the exhaust exit.
This is the recommended way by most model manufacturers?

Never burnt me but maybe I'm special :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Kazujo

I find it hard to believe a manufacturer would recommend you cover the exhaust as the whole exhaust system is generally hot especially if the engine has been running.

Not to ask a silly question or anything but by exhaust you mean where the smoke (exhaust gases) comes from not the air intake?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

Pinching the fuel line is an easier and safer :) way of shuting off the engine

Even though the exhaust wont be that hot ;)
