    Big Brother's Nick booted out

"Nasty" Nick Bateman was disqualified from Channel 4's Big Brother house tonight after four weeks in the show for breaking the programme's rules.

The former stockbroker was dismissed for "persistent infringement" of the rules of the surveillance gameshow by trying to manipulate the voting process which leads to contestants being evicted.

Nick became a hate figure to viewers but fellow volunteers had no idea about his scheming to win the £70,000 prize until today.

Channel 4 and producers of the show decided this afternoon that he should go after his cheating came to light and he had a showdown with other contestants.

In a statement tonight, Channel 4 said: "Nick was evicted at 5pm today for persistent infringement of the Big Brother rules, after it came to light that he had yet again been attempting to manipulate the show's nomination process.

"He was discovered to have been writing notes and showing them to fellow contestants in an attempt to influence their voting intentions.

"The rules of Big Brother expressly forbid contestants from talking about nominations and tactical voting."

Each week, members of the house vote on who they think should be ejected, then viewers vote on a choice of two.

Nick, despite his lack of popularity with the viewing public, had been popular with his housemates and was the only person not to have been nominated.

His plotting came to light in the early hours of this morning as his colleagues chatted.

It led to Craig and Darren from the house searching Nick's suitcase, while he sat in another room unaware, and they found papers on which he had plotted his tactics to win the prize.

Big Brother organisers are expected to replace Nick but will announce details at a later date.

The ejected contestant had already been given both a verbal and written warning which made clear he and the others would be given the boot if they flew in the face of rules designed to stop vote-rigging.

As he said his goodbyes this evening to his angry housemates, he said: "I did it for selfish reasons. I made a mistake and I apologise - it wasn't personal.

"It's been a very enjoyable six weeks and I wish all of you the best for the remaining four, five weeks here and the rest of your lives.

"I hope you all get what you want and have a happy life hereafter. I'm very sorry. I'm going through a lot of pain now which I deserve but we all have emotions so hopefully some of you will understand in days to come."

Earlier in the day Nick was in tears following a confrontation with housemates who held a "kangaroo court" at which the others let him know what they thought of him.

He packed his bags and said he was going to leave after they vented their anger over his double dealing.

Darren and Nichola said his actions made them sick, while Craig told Nick: "I just thought you were genuine. I was misled and you made me look a fool. You're making it hard for me to believe what anyone else has said."

Explaining his actions, Nick said he had acted that way because "it's a very competitive environment".

"I've worked in a very aggressive environment where people will stitch you up to further their own careers," he said, referring to his 10 years in the City.

"I came on this and I thought it was time for a change," he said.

Many fans struggled to see Nick's final moments on a 24-hour internet link because of the sheer volume of interest which meant the action kept freezing or breaking the connection.

Big Brother spokeswoman Sarah Booth, speaking at the site of the house in East London, said: Nick was coping with his eviction.

She said: "He is very calm about it.

"He knows he has been caught out breaking the rules.

"They are not meant to discuss the nominations. He was warned repeatedly but he continued to do it.

"The note and the pen were the final straw and it had been the third warning."

She said the producers had not yet decided whether Craig and Nichola were to be given another chance after they were nominated for eviction this week.

I'd say this is just one big publicity stunt.
Anyone know if this was in the news? - Think I saw it on RTE news earlier, but I'm not sure.
    It's bound to increase ratings.

    - What's this now?™ -

Saw the guy whos replacing Nick, hes a Yank and seem to be annoying as f uck, hopefully smile.gif

He does have an unfair advantage seeing as he probably knows everything about the other contestants, unless of course they kept him isolated somewhere which would be highly unlikely.....

Chances are he'll be nominated at the end of his first week in there as the household will be closer to each other than this new guy.

Still hope he adds a bit of excitement to a house full of dry s hites.

I am yet to watch this program and don't really feel the urge to.

As this is the humanities board I may as well say what I think.

This show is fairly innocent by itself but it is just one more barrier being brought down on the road to complete lack of privacy.

    Where will it end?
