Muvo on Mac?

Since my iPod's untimely death I've decided to get a flash player for use in the gym. Now I was under the impression that it would work seamlessly as a removable drive in OSX, but after browsing some Creative forums it seems this may not be the case - it looks like it may have to be mounted from command line.

Anyone using a Muvo at the moment?

There are some sweet deals to be had on Creative's own site with the new N200 and V200 models being relatively cheap and the old NX and TX versions still going strong.

The other alternative is to get the pricier but still nice Rio Cali or Forge. I believe these do have Mac support and they're also expandable with SDs.

I have a mate's Nomad at the moment, and it doesn't mount as a drive (I think intentionally, as part of DRM). I had to drag out and re-install my old PC to work with it, which is giving me a refresher on the "joys" of Creative's traditionally-flakey software...

I say: wait until 10th Jan (Stevenote at MWSF!). There seems to definitely be a flash iPod in the works ;-)

I've got a creative rhomba, got it over in thailand and it mounts as a drive but then when i load some songs onto it an go to play them, i get a series of the .blah files and the trashes folder similar to that when you use a memory kep from mac to windows. This is very annoying and have to connect to PC to delete these otherwise it stops in between every song. I have located some new firmware for it but haven't figured out how to install it yet! Anyone any suggestions for me??
sorry for hogging your thread but maybe as my creative player works the muvo should work too...with a firmware update that is!

Not at all. I was getting into a cab last year and it was in my (long) coat pocket - someone slammed the door shut with my coat hanging out.

The only apparent damage was a cracked screen and it worked for a good few months with the leaky LCD but then it finally died. Its currently with a friend who is an Apple reseller and he's meant to be fitting a new screen.

However, getting friends to do stuff means its taking an eternity.

One option I was thinking of was using Virtual PC - but then everyone hoped it would work with NetMDs and it didn't.

I think I'll just get a Rio Cali - the o2 shops have them for about 160 which isn't too bad and it is rubberised and 'sporty'. It will stand up much better to gym use.

I have an iMac, and use a Rio Forge 256Mb with 1Gb SD card. Mounts as drive, also has plugins for iTunes on the suplied installation CD.

Try here, for some reason the 512Mb version is CHEAPER than the 256Mb at the mo' !

Those Rio units look great. I like the fact you can add more memory later. If anyone has links to a good review I'd appreciate it.

    Cheers!

Slight correction/clarification to my 1st post, you end up with two drives mounted on your desktop if you use the SD/MMC slot. One for the Rio itself, and one for the expansion card.

    After 4 months still happy,

    +'s
    small and light in weight
    AAA battery lasts 20 hours
    will record radio
    menu is easy to navigate
    256Mb +1Gb SD @ 128 bitrate equals 16 hours of music
    compatibe with Audible.com

    -'s
    battery door difficult to remove
    SD card difficult to remove
radio reception is good but not great

Can you record from other sources other than the radio. I don't think theres a mic/line in is there?

    No mic or line in.

Picked up a spiffy new 256mb Rio Forge for 150 smackers yesterday. Works like a charm, does everything as expected (didn't even need to load the manuals and software from the CD) and looks cool as well. Was also cheaper than the outgoing Cali model.

Came preloaded with about 15 sample songs and some Audible snippets. Apparently I'm entitled to one free Audible download as well, but I've never really got into the whole audiobook thing.

The great thing is that the sound is pretty powerful. Decent tight bass which is what I want for the rap, trance, industrial and metal stuff I'll be listening to in the gym - and its even better with the Sony MD71 earplugs I bought to use with the iPod.
