Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi there,

I'm organizing a table quiz in a homeless shelter in Dublin for next week.

I need to come up with some questions and indeed answers but am having difficulty doing so.

I had a quick look around the net to see if I could find anything useful but all I discovered was the "Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in UCC's Table Quiz 2004"

    Questions included: "If (x+1)4 = x4 + Ax3 + Bx2 + Cx + 1, what is A+B+C ?"

This isn't exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for :)

So if any of you would care to submit some questions (and answers) I would be much obliged. Questions on anything at all would be appreciated, I'll try and make some kind of categories later.

    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

The answer to the above question is, incidently, 14.

    Thanks for that.

I'm not sure if I could make questions out of these facts though.

For instance: "For how many days can a cockroach live without its head?"

    Answer = 9

    :)

There's a table quiz forum. Dunno if anyone uses it though.

    Q. What's the unit of currency in Indonesia?
    A. The Rupiah.

There you go, now all you need is about 99 more.

I can help. I'm really busy with work at the mo, but I'll see what I can do... And check out the general knowledge thread on the table quiz forum, lots of ideas there.

Any idea how many questions, and whether you want to mix them all up or have a theme per round?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭blobert

Well I was plannning on having a a few different rounds, but I can just make rough categories: sport, history, geography, general knowledge etc. out of the ones posted here.

Thanks very much for all the questions, and please keep them coming....

    98 to go!
    Chappo, Parmo ... etc.

    http://www.avendano.org/quiz/history.html
You could pick up the enclycopedia of Ireland €25 - loads of questions there
or a trip to a local library for a "fact" book
You could also include a few topical items from that days newspaper or news, headlines would be good for the D'Oh factor.

How can you be sure that no one from boards will be going along ? ;)

Phibsborough. Check any map. There's a townland in north County Dublin called Skidoo.

The secret to a good Table quiz is to have (presuming it's out of 60), 30 qs that the dog or cat would get, another 10 that most people will get, another 10 that are a bit harder, and then 10 stinkers to sort them out.

This way, everyone is happy, whether they win or not. What you do not want is people being made to feel stupid, and scoring under half marks. Is the quiz in aid of a shelter, or for residents of a homeless shelter? This might influence your choice of question.

If you are doing 10 qs a round, a quick way of clocking up qs is to have a music round (with two v difficult ones), and a picture round. That leaves you only 40 qs to make up.

I've run many quizzes over the years. PM me if you are stuck.

Here's one I got in a quiz before:

Who's the odd one out and why?
    Neil Armstrong
    Edwin Aldrin
    Michael Collins

A: Michael Collins because he was on the same mission but never landed on the moon - he stayed in the orbiter.

One team got a bonus point for their answer: Armstrong and Aldrin were shot to the moon but Collins was shot in Cork :D

    thanks again folks

quizz is for residents of a homeless hostel. some of them have far better general knowledge than your average, but in general I don't want the questions to be to hard.

keep em coming, I've got another day to come up with them.

    Thanks
