    Minimum wage is minimum wage.

Haven't a clue what the story is, but I'd say someone else here does.
In the unlikely event that you can't find an answer here, you can always try the Work board.

    Yes I'm bored :)

I'd say you might make more than minimum wage as its christmas week. You'll get at least the minimum wage anyway.

whatever you do don't think they're doing you a favour.. cos it's you're doing them a favour..
you're temporary.. they must still pay you min wage and give you prescribed breaks etc.
and if you work over the 39 hours they should give you time and a half for it.. if they don't automatically say it when you start.. I'm sure they'll need all the help they can get and won't be so quick to give you a reason to walk out!!!

    OK here's the story
Here's the hours i was given

    Thurs(today) 5pm - 10pm
    5 hours
    Fri 5pm - 10pm
    5 hours
    Sat 8am - 7pm
    10 hours
    Mon 4pm - 12am
    8 hours
    Tues 4pm - 12am
    8 hours
    Wed 4pm - 12am
    8 hours
    Thurs 5pm - 1am
    8 hours
    Fri 2pm - 6pm 4 hours

    So thats 56 hours,
but if you only take a full week fr til fri its 51 hours. So is it the law that i get paid 7 an hour for first 39 hours and then time and a half for the other 12???

What can i do if they don't pay properly?

as a student u if u only work 20 hours u get paid 6.50 an hour. but as ur workin 56 ur entitled to 7 and overtime. ur overtime is based on the hours u do in a day not every hour over 40.

So does anyone know for a fact if i get over time, or is over time done on a day to day sort of thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

not for definite.. overtime whenever I got it was based on the 39 hour week. any hours over that were on time n a half.. other than that, Sunday's were double time. I'm not sure if they are obliged to give it or not.. just ask.. or maybe ask a fellow member of staff on ur break on day 1.. find out if they get it and then if you are askin management for it you know whether others are gettin it or not :D

Legal overtime is time and half for hours worked during week , 1st 4 hours on a saturday time and a half and everyone after double time.
Sunday is double time all day , unless your working a shift then it may vary.
39 hours must be accumulated before you are paid over time , some companies pay regardless, i doubt yours is one of them.

    Thurs(today) 5pm - 10pm
    5 hours €35
    Fri 5pm - 10pm
    5 hours €35
    Sat 8am - 7pm
    10 hours €70
€140 back week ,paid next week i presume or into the hand depending on job.

    NEW WEEK
    Mon 4pm - 12am
    8 hours €56 PLUS 16% EVE Shift allowance €64.96
    Tues 4pm - 12am
    8 hours €56 PLUS 16% EVE Shift allowance €64.96
    Wed 4pm - 12am
    8 hours €56 PLUS 16% EVE Shift allowance €64.96
    Thurs 5pm - 1am
    8 hours €56 PLUS 16% EVE Shift allowance €64.96
    Fri 2pm - 6pm 4 hours €28 PLUS 16% Shift allowance €32.48
    €292.42

If you start after 12pm in the day you are entitled to eve shift allowance, somehow i doubt you will get this.

As you can see form my post this is what you should get, but you will be screwed :D

Please post back and tell us how they screwed you, the above is what your are entitled to.

Do you want to work there again ?

Not every employer pays shift allowance, particularly if you are doing straight evenings.

plus if they classify him as being in training they dont have to pay the full minimum wage.

I thought the minimum wage was €7.60 but that link has proved me wrong. I doubt you'll be paid €7 an hour, very few places would pay as low as that.

only if it is overtime, more than eight hours in the one day, that is assuming you are working more than 40 hours in one week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭cajun_tiger

why dont you ring and ask??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

Yes - ask your manager "How much am I being paid for these hours?"
