A very interesting picture is unfolding for this Saturday as the cold
option seems to have run out the winner. What we are looking at
is a slack area of low pressure which is set to intensify over the south coast of Ireland and dig down very cold air behind it. This precipitation now
looks likely to fall as snow on Saturday Evening and Night as the
cold air digs into the intense rainfall. These situations are very
difficult to call and the final outcome will be unknown until the
    event takes place itself.

Here are a few maps to show you what is taking place:

Low Pressure banked into Southern Ireland draggin in strong
easterly winds for the centre strip of the country and dragging
    in bitter winds:

850hpa Temperatures: Notice the Colder air being dragged
south, usually sub -5c brings a high risk of snow.

Now Look at the bank of rain over Southern and central Ireland
this is what has a 50/50 chance of turning to snow in a few areas
and will especially as it moves away southeast later in the night

Heres how i see the chances for Snowfall Come Saturday Night

i dont think this snow is gonna happen at all.. most of the national weather forecasts from bbc, sky and rte and saying that it may snow on high ground in cental areas of the uk and wales but ireland its just gonna be standard rain, also its a bit milder than yesterday, we didnt even have a frost last night.

Yes Longfield a white christmas has been in the offing for
nearly a week now!! :) I've been chatting about
it in the snow thread :)

ANd yes it now looks very likely that some areas in Ireland
    will see a white one!!

And if things go well.. i'll be ringing in the money!!!

    A reply for Gonzo :)

Hi Mate just to let you know what happening :)
A small low pressure is moving east along a strong
jet, mild air is being pumped around it and so bringing
a rise in temperatures across most of the country for
a time this evening. But later tonight much colder air
will dig in on the lows backwash possibly turning
the back edge of the rain to snow :)

For most places will be rain, but there is a substantial risk of couple of hours of sleet/snow in some areas especially the mountains, would guess Westmeath and Kildare have a better chance than most for it (as usual).
Who knows, maybe even here in Dublin we may have a little sleet for an hour or so in the early hours of Sunday.
