    Hey folks,

I recently took on a college project involving file sharing and so decided to attempt to get torrents up and running so i can understand them while also expanding my media collection.

    My set up:
Digiweb Wireless BB (512K) Account --> Antenna --> Wall Socket --> PC.

I have no router (yet) and as such am using XP SP2 Windows Firewall.

I have added Azureus to the exception list in SP2 FW and also added the port 6881 seperately as both a UDP and TCP type port.
I have also tried disabling the firewall completely just for testing.
I have also tried all of the above using a different port number - 9999

In all cases I get NAT error on the config wizard port test.

I have a static IP btw and with no router I use this static IP as my machine's IP. As a result should I use this static IP for "bind to local ip"

    Can anyone offer advice?

Have almost no experience with bit torrent cause I'm on a shíty dial-up connection.

Try this site though. I've seen it recommended a lot.

Have you tried using any other BitTorrent clients: The only other important things to remember are:
    • Cap your upload rate so as not to flood your uplink (which will slow your download rate).
    • Open ports 6881 to 6999 (TCP) incoming on your firewall to allow remote connections.

Do i have to just make an exception for every one between 6881 and 6999? is there a way with windows firewall to open them without making 119 seperate exceptions in the exceptions list in Windows Firewall?

You should only need to open ports 6881 to 6889.

The original BitTorrent port specification was 6881 - 6889. I think the latest version can use up to 6999. Strictly speaking you only need as many ports open incoming as you have clients running. Your first torrent client should bind to 6881, the next to 6882, ...

Try just opening 6881 to 6889 as Stephen mentions (or a few of them). I just have a rule set on my h/w firewall to allow traffic to come in to BitTorrent on the full range for simplicity's sake. Save yourself the typing if you need to do each individually.

As Azureus is really just a GUI, you may have to add the bittorrent python file to the exception list. Just a hunch, I don't use Windows or a software firewall, so that might be rubbish.
With a hardware firewall, you need to enable port forwarding for the 10 ports in the range 6881-6890, though I doubt that would be necessary with a software one.
