    Hey dudes,
is there any way you can see the history of a computers use?
i.e. which programs were running when and for how long etc......

Im not talking about 3rd party software that tracks and monitors users use of a computer but files or info that is stored automatically by MS XP

    Cheers....

No, nothing like that is stored by Windows. If it was, there would be uproar...

Many applications communicate with the Event Viewer - have a look at it.
at the other extreme Canary is a key stroke logger..

Windows does log a certain amount of computer use, but I doubt it would be as detailed as you would like.

for example, windows keeps a folder of shortcuts for all documents accessed in a specific time frame. The folder is called "recent" but I cant check exactly where atm as I've got my system locked up as tight as possible and have all those sorts of 'logging' disabled so I cant find the folder.

just do a bit of research, it there is some data which windows keeps about you.. temp. internet is a good one, or a bad one depending on your viewing habbits.

just save yourself the effort and download something that does it for you though, its much less of a chore

Think some of the .dat windows files store some of what you are on about.
I know the index.dat stores all internet related stuff. Google a reader and have alook
