I am looking to buy a satelite system.

What would people recommend i buy so as i could get the FTV channels and that also could possibly pick up football (with or without a veiwing card)

I have been looking at websites but none seem to tell what channels can be picked up in Ireland

Very few websites which sell equipment will tell you what channels can be received as this would imply that the reception of specific channels forms part of the sales contract as obviously retailers have no control over broadcasters. There are however listings sites such as www.lyngsat.com which will tell you whats available on particular satellites. For example astra 1,2 and hotbird can be accessed using an 80cm dish

Hubby and I have this set up. Not much free sport but many free stations from all over Europe and Beyond.
Great way to see the world.

Are Astra 1,2 and hotbird on the same location, 19.2' East?

no you need either a multi lnb set up or dish motor to get all three

A motor gives about 28 satellite positions (quite a bit of sport if you hunt for it, but probly little premireship).

It is much better value than a multi LNB.

www.satellite.ie does good FTA receivers, motors, dish and LNB. Maybe all for about 300 Euro?

I'd avoid pirate cards as (1) it might be illegal and (2) can cost as much as a package!!

A receiver with card slots is more expensive.

As well as the 100 or so Sky fta TV and Radio (all BBC, ITV3, Performance, Classic TV, Classic FM, POP, Chart Hits, ITV news, Euronews, Sky News, Tiny Pop, Chart Hits, Travel, Vault, CNN, Musicians channel, Horror TV, Comunity, Wrestling, Golf etc), some highlights in English, or with some english or English subtitles, or not needing english are:
    MTV Germany (2 versions)
About 10 other Pop video channels.
    BBC World.
    Bloomberg
    TV5
    DW TV
    Arriang TV
    DC TV
    VOA / C-Span TV
    Terranova (Wildlife)
    E. (Tech TV)
    Leonardo World
    CNBC
    Arte
