    Hey,

Was in Thailand last Summer and absolutely loved it so im going back this Summer but would like to visit Vietnam. Are flights easy to get from Thailand and do flights only go to bangkok? also how much would it be? Is the cost of living just as cheap in Vietnam and what would be a decent amount of time to spend there?

i went from bangkok to vietnam last year. flights were fairly resonable. but i understand there is now budget carrier that flies out of bangkok so you might get them for fairly low. my flights were about 120 euro return. vietnam is well worth a visit and you need a bare minimum of a week there in my opinion.

I fount vietnam to be cheaper than bangkok and the people a lot friendlier. you don't get hasseled as much by people selling things. we took a train up through vietnam, sure it was a different experience but it was 22 hours just to get to denang from ho chi minh and it was a pain in the ass. i'd advise you to fly up and tour the area. there is endless things to do as regards war sites and stuff. a must is the co chi (sp?) tunnels. you can get a trip from ho chi ming for fairly cheap. it includes transfers, tour guide lunch and a very extensive tour including the chance to fire some of the guns used during the war.

Also there is a village not far from danag called hoi an. its a small quite place that you could easily spend a week in with out noticing it go by. if you want some places to stay, eat or any other info, pm me.

Do keep an eye on your belongings though. I did not find the city dangerous and walked around it safly enough, even at night. but i was in a group of 4 lads. another thing if you are sittin gin a bar, do not sit beside an open window as people form the streets might tend to grab your stuff.

TBH your better off going from Bangkok --> Cambodia --> Ho Chi Min over land & water done this last summer & was fooking excellent... going back in June, Serious I had a better time going through cambodia than being in Ho Chi Min.

    Good luck....

Yeah going there via cambodia is the best option, it takes ages but its worth stopping off in siam reap/angkor. and if u go there, ask ur moto driver for some weed!

I 2nd Loco, i have just spent 3 months around asia spending about 3000 euro and thats eating, drinking, buying unuseful stuff as well as staying in fairly decent places.
9000 euro, no way, impossible, in 5 weeks, ultra impossible, unless you employed the services of every working girl around :)

Yeah I agree, you should defo do Cambodia too. If you have time you should defo consider doing Laos too, its such a gorgeous country. We went Thailand then Laos then Vietnam then Cambodia and finally Thailand again, all by land (and a really long 2 day ass-numbing journey by slow boat) 2 days sitting on a wooden bench on a boat ain't good for the ass!! :) believe me!
If you have time i would recommend doing it all by land.
In Vietnam we stopped in Hanoi (my fave place ever apart from Koh Phi Phi which im so upset about at the mo with the tsunami and that). We then did Hue and Hoi An which has the best beach ever in my opinion.
Anyway Im rambling now, all the memories are coming back! Any q's just ask.
We did all 4 countries in a rushed 2 months and spent about 2000.
    Hope that helps
