If you are an O2 bill customer, ring them and tell them you are considering switching to Vodafone (for whatever reason) and you'll be put through to a different department.

The person will then offer you a reduction of 25% on your line rental if you commit for a further year OR 25% off without any commitment for 6 months.

    Something for nothing...

PS. it may depend on how long you are with O2 or how much you spend with them

Yeah have to say this is true, my brother rang up to switch from bill-pay to prepay a few weeks ago and they did the same. He didn't take the offer and think he mentioned that they even were willing to give him a few free texts each months free too. i've told all my friends to do it! guess they're not liking all the people switchin to the likes of meteor or even the fact that they wont be getting guaranteed income each month from line rentals from their bill-pay customers.

I rang them 3 weeks ago to say I was thinking of going to Vodafone
because the cost of a new handset was too dear and the same handset (or near enough) was much cheaper on Vodafone.
I wanted them to knock off a few quid but I'm not a huge monthly bill payer.
The girl who answered wasn't interested in keeping the business, she just said you fill out a form and cancel the phone line blah, blah, blah.
When I asked her about the other half changing from PAYG to vodafone as well, she didn't budge an inch even when I asked her could they do the handset a bit cheaper?
    Should I try again?

Actually I just rang them yesterday to cancel mines as well 'cause they won't give me the advantage upgrade and that I was only eligible for the bonus upgrade. I'm not a heavy user but I was hoping since I had signed up with them since 1997 and never upgraded since that they might give me the advantage upgrade :(

Then I was transferred to another department and offered the same discount but I didn't take it so it might be worth a shot for anyone continuing with them.

That was my experience too. I felt that if I had asked her where my nearest Meteor store was she would have told me.

When my (latest) 12 months was up there a while back, they actually rang me to offer me this deal if I agreed to signup for another 12 months so I took them up on it...

..course who knows what the state of play will be next year....... :)

Even with 25% off line rental O2 Bill packages can hardly be called a bargin :D

Let's face it... Neither Vodafone or O2 are bargains but I think O2 edge ahead of Vodafone in terms of cost to consumer. The Average Revenue Per User figures would seem to bear this out as well..

    LOL viking :)

I had the same when I moved form Vodafone to Meteor a few weeks ago. Vodafone tried to offer loads of discounts. Might I say "Sorry lads, pitty you didn't reduce the rip off prices earlier"
