And here's where we get a ****load of immiture moanings about how lame a thread this is...

    Please...
    This is a pre-emptive request.
We all know who hates these things, do we REALLY need to fill this thread with spam about how this is a useless thread?
So, can you lot please keep your disgust to yourselves?

A lot of people find these threads entertaining.
Bantering arguments around on who is and isn't a good guitarist(Or singer, or drummer) is quite interesting, and can be a lot of fun.

    And to answer the question.
    In no particular order:

Alexi Laiho & Alexander Kuoppala (Children Of Bodom)

Jon Schafer & Larry Tarnowski (Iced Earth)

Janos Mendonca & Paul Scanlon (Akercocke)

Paul Allender & Gian Pyres (Cradle Of Filth)

Adrian Smith & Janick Gers (Iron Maiden)

Mikael Akerfeldt & Peter Lindgren (Opeth)

    Ihsahn & Samoth (Emperor)

I think Jimi Hendrix is great, but he's overrated. As in I've heard him come out with some absolute shíte!!
    Other greats would be ;
    - Lenny Kravitz
    - Kirk Hammett
    - Steve Craddock

Can't think of anymore at the moment

These guys are generally all in the "rawk-virtuoso" vein. Not really my thing. Besides, I still think Slash from GnR was my favourite rock guitarist. smile.gif

Looking further afield - Johnny Marr's work when he was in the Smiths still ranks very, very highly for me. Pete Townsend definitely deserves a mention too. These guys came up with some unique and distinctive sounds.

Great guitar playing isn't all about gurning into a camera and knocking out harmonics with the tip of your c0ck while your guitar shoots flames and razor blades.

Morten the Dragon from Slay The Virgin Christians With Pointy Sticks, my *favourite* Icelandic near-death-but-possibly-thrash-in-a-classical-kinda-way-metal.

For the purposes of this post, I shall ignore those who can only play pointless melodic and tuneful guitar, they pale in comparison to 100mph Nordic THRASH!

What no one said Tom Morello guitarist Rage Against the machine.

For the fourth year in a row Tom Morello was voted Best Guitarist at the 24th Annual California Music Awards!
    Can anyone beat that.
And If you dont believe me just listen to the solos in:
    "take the power back"
    or
    "settle for nothing"

Sure but then you keep your favourite artists, singers, drummers, guitarists, bass players and so on to yourself.

Angelwhore every time one of these threads comes up you automatically name a member of cradle of filth. Are you their advertising agent or something?

Seeing as Cradle of Filth have the “best” guitarists, bass players, drummer etc why oh why are they not being proclaimed as the greatest band of all time?

You are a target market Angelwhore.

Please... Go on and explain why I am a "Target Market"!?
Because I like a certian kind of music?
Is this some kind of trolling attempt?

Did you find my asking for this not to be a flamed up thread with nothing but "This thread is stupid, and useless" comment as a personal attack on yourself?

I'm sorry but I didn't perticularly like seeing other threads of this nature descend into moaning flames.

Yes I name Cradle Of Filth in treads like this.
    Why?
Because I think they have a fantastic double guitar style, very unique.

And if I'm not mistaken, I've named guitarist from 6 other bands.
I think I have mentioned Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem and numerous other bands about as much aswell.
Are you not going to complain about me naming their guitarists too?

This is a thread about giving an opinion on great guitarists, and I gave mine.

Bard always seems to mention Eric Clapton, why not hassle him for a bit?

Jimi Hendrix ALWAYS gets mentioned by a LOT of people... Why not flame them while your at it?

I've got ALOT of his live stuff and there's a few pretty bad jams. I know he's a great guitarist, but I still think he's overrated. I'll have a little trawl through my collection and if I find the particular tune I was listening to, I'll tell ya

WTF!?!? No Knopfler yet? These kids today have no respect for the *real* masters ;)
First of all you've got the riff from Money For Nothing. That's such a MANS riff! :D
Then you've got the absolutely gorgeous Romeo & Juliet.
Take a listen to Brothers in Arms, chilling.

The man can make a guitar sing.

    Stuart -> Cradle
Hecate Enthroned guitarists can't think of their names.
    John Schaffer -> Iced Earth

And last, but certainly not least, the god of guitarists.......Randy Rhoads-> Ozzy Osbourne.

Because mainstream music is braindead. Created by people who don't want you to think, just hand over your money and stay quiet. Fear not, the underground exists.

As if the idea of popularity=good is at all practical.

Thats why Pearl Harbor (Big huge manoy spinner) was such a much better film than Memento (Flop)...

Remember kids... People used to think the world was round. Popular opinion doesn't make something so.
