Digital Camera problem

Not sure if there is an electronics forum (or something similar) so mods please move if there is.

Now my problem is this. I got my digicam in January, so its still under warranty. I bought it off Amazon. Its an Olympus camera.

There is a little clip that holds the battery in place before you close the outer casing of the camera over the battery compartment. Now this is clip is just a piece of plastic on a spring. A few weeks ago I noticed part of the plastic had come off. I was on a night out with it and decided to improvise. The plastic is just there to hold the battery up, so I folded over some tissue and put that on the battery and closed the compartment. The tisse pushed the battery up into place (a la the plastic clip) and the camera worked. It became a bit tedious though as I also had to put pressure on the battery compartment so I brought it to the main Olympus dealer who sent it off to be assessed. After 3 weeks without a reply I rang him and he informed me that there is some damage to an internal memory card and it will cost 200 euro to fix. Now the camera was working fine and I have the photos to prove that, all it needed was a replacement for the plastic clip.

What should I do? Should I contact Olympus myself in an disgruntled tone? Should it not be covered by the guarantee?

Hmmmm. If its still under warranty then you should be entitled to free repair or a replacement, aslong as the damage was done through no fault of your own. Which I assume it wasnt as you had no idea anything other than the plastic clip was broken. Ide say ring them and ask for a free repair or replacement, if needs be bitch and moan but thats not always the best approach.

I can categorically state that I have never dropped or hit the camera hard(obviously Im sure its taken the odd bump but nothing major). I only noticed it after I had taken the camera out to shoot, again highlighting that it happened unnoticed, so its not as if it was the result of a major fall.

Ill get on to them anyway. Cheers.
