Great idea. I feel UCD is lacking in the metal area. :)

yeah - it'd be great to see some funky & deep house in the student bar for once, likewise with some better rock. there's only so many damien-rice-alikes that people can take!

If I pass these exams, I'll set up BLACKMetalSOC :D:D:p Actually, I'd love to do that! Least there'd be good music then! :D

Will also lend support to an industrial one... :)

just to warn you, i tried to set up an alternative music soc in ucd earlier this year, i did everything i was told: wrote up a constitution, wrote a manifesto and i got about 90 student signatures....i handed it all in to the SU and never heard another word about it....poxy SU go off on little rants of their own and then ignore their own members

You need to give it to your Societies Officer, he/she will probably be a part time SU officer, so might not have got it.

It's that person's *job* to help you get stuff up, so hassle 'em!!!

i did. i had alot on my plate for a couple of months after i handed it in so i didnt follow it up and at this stage it seems usless. the SU is a waste of space tbh.

societies have nothing at all to do with the Union. Afaik tis Richard Butler who is responsible for socities. Try him, he works in teh Student centre up stairs

yes, a lovely man indeed. try and get him on a good day.

Eh, actually, societies have nowt to do with the SU, its guy called Ricahrd Butler you need to see. If you handed them into him, well, no surpirse he didnt get back to you, he doesnt seem to be the best at what he does. Remember those front page college paper articles about the Society Commitee elections being a farce?

Great idea! i would LOVE to be a member of that society. Organising gigs in the student bar etc. I didn't hear anything about it though. Try again and i'll support.

Call me crazy but my nights out involve going to see good bands and not pop music in a night club. Is that ALL those other societies do? Seriously lasking any taste or creativity.

Also, there should be at least one gig a week in the student bar, it's a good venue in my opinion.

yeah, that's not such a bad idea...

I agree with you there about having more gigs in the student bar but I think the bar sucks in my opinion.

Yeah tis a good idea t'be sure. I know I for one am a bit tired of of the aul singer/songwriter acoustic-y lark we get lately. A bit o' post hardcore wouldnt go amiss, form an actual band. amplified!
