Is the US the cheapest way to a mid-high range laptop?

    well is it? I'm guessing if you're looking at bargain basement stuff you will do as well to buy in Ireland or from a UK or German online retailer.

    But if you're looking for something more mid to high range is the US always gonna be cheapest?

    Is all the hassle of trying to donge customs (through the post), warranty issues and US keyboard worth the savings?

    The word is you will not get anything through the post without paying import duty these days. The only way is to carry one yourself or have someone bring one back for you.

    And yes, it is worth it. I am writing this on a HP widescreen laptop with 1 gig of Ram, 5-in-1 card reader, USB, firewire, wireless, ATI mobility graphics card, all for the equivalent of 970 Euro (Ok, so I got a Celeron, but I have since upgraded the processor to a 3.2Ghz P4 - sweet biggrin.gif).

    Warranty is a concern, if something goes wrong, you are on your own. That's the risk you take.
