Ok I know this maybe the wrong forum for this so the mods can move it if required, but i got a package from play.com today which seemed very light and too bendy for the game i ordered for an xmas present.

    Reason: it was empty. wtf!

I rang them up and they were very good and refunded my money, they offered to resend it but the chances of getting it here before xmas were slim. It seemed yto be opened and had the customs stamp on it and all.

Anyone any clues as to what happened it, If i thought it was robbed in transit i'd be very pist off,

I had a similiar problem except I found my torn and empty delivery a few hundred metres down the street.

Recently I have had a few items go missing, I have been meaning to contact An Post to make a complaint but their website does not give any details.

This is theft in my view, anyone know the best way to deal with it.

Play and CD-Wow have resent the missing items but they have yet to reach me, I don't want to go back to them as it is not their fault but I don't want to be out of pocket either.

Stolen whilest in the postal system. Both the British and Irish postal service emplay a large amount of casual labour around this time. You have your refund and if you need it for Christmas, get in the high street.

Gona have to do that but still a bit miffed about it. Like they tell you on the envelope what's in it, so some sticky fingered postal worker has got a nice xmas present for some one. I hope the disc shatters in the console maiming their pet dog

You should have seen the state of the "Casual" that delivered here today

Get a lost item form from any post office and send it off. You'll get a useless letter back saying lost unregistered items will not be compensated.

I have a few of these letters from when 3 DVDs sent between DVDRentals.ie and me went missing over a period of 3 weeks!! I think DVDRentals staff suspected theft because they noticed patterns i.e. multiple disappearances in a few areas. I ended up cancelling my subscription to DVDRentals.ie because of An Post (not DVDRentals who were great). So often deliveries would take 2 days, even when posted for 11am post (Dublin 15 to/from Dublin 8).

Yeah last year my brother had ordered a boxset - Family Guy or something. Anyway, an post got no reply from our house & proceeded to ask a house about 10 doors away to take the parcel for us.
We were only living in the house a few weeks at this stage.
Thanks be to god the guy was honest & knocked in later & gave it to us. When my brother got on to An Post they didn't really give a damn.
    Such a crap service

    .

The postal system will only compensate the sender not the reciever. Considering he has the refund from Play, there is no need to look for compensation.

    Ok it happened again

Was going home from work yesterday evening and I spotted an envelope from Play on the side of the street, after poking it with my foot to be able to see the address it turns out to be addressed to me.

This is the third package I have found opened in the street and brings the total to 8 packages in the last month that have not reached me.

I am fairly certain that they are not being robbed from inside the building I live so I am going to head to the GPO this evening to see what I can do in the ways of a formal complaint.

Surely they have to take theft seriously?

Does postal theft command the same ridiculously high sentences here as in some other countries?

I wouldn't blame them, I can get stuff delivered to work but I am annoyed that I cannot get stuff delivered to my home address with it being nicked before it gets there.

Play are always extremely good when it comes to items being lost, etc. I find that they have fantastic customer service. I once was waiting two weeks for a DVD and rang them up because it never took that long before, and they offered to send out another one straight away. I told them to hang on for another day or two to see if I got it in the meanwhile and would get back to 'em. Turns out that it did arrive the next day, so I rang back saying twas okay.

They also sent me out two copies of a DVD before, so I rang up and said I'd send the extra one back. They even refunded me the postage!

    Play rock! :D

tbh id say it isnt the postman, rather someone nearby or in the building. Assuming the postman has at leastminimal ntelligence he wouldnt keep dropping the empty packets outside the building but would have them sorted and take them home or chuck them in a wheely bin . Course he could be just an idiot.

i know it's too late now to be saying this but it would be prudent next time to have your orders from Play delivered to you at work. I have done this for 4 years and have received everything i ordered from them. For some reason company post is delivered more securely than casual post. Also ordering stuff around December is very risky as you just highlighted in your experiences recently.

I don't want to accuse the postman of anything but seeing as I have received packages in the mailbox as recently as last night I am at a loss as to whether it is going missing from inside the building or before it gets to the building.

I can receive stuff in work no problem but I don't see why I should have to. It is more convienent for me to get it delivered home although now it seems like I have no choice but to get stuff sent to work and I resent this.

Ah well no point moaning anymore, I will have to get Play to refund me and trawl through the marauding hordes of shoppers to get the presents for people that I ordered mid November.

Got to dvds from cdwow yesterday, one of them had the sellotape sliced open on the side as though somebody had a peek inside, probably didnt like what they saw!
I also got 2 €1 vouchers in them, does anybody know if they are gift vouchers or e-vouchers, I presume e-vouchers but it doesnt say it.

Thats happened to me a few times as well where CD wow are concerned, one dvd was actually half out of the packaging! I got just the 1 x €1 euro voucher and yeah it is an e voucher as far as I know as it mentions you will get one with every order on Pigsback but thinks its for everyone!

Woah thats some scary stuff, i would hate to imagaine the postman stealing my stuff, fortunatly i have recieved everything i haver ever ordered over the net. Mind you my free lucuazed camera is taking its time to come. I got a fright earlier this week when i got a new pda from dell, i ordered some accessories and they came in a separte box, to my horror i noticed the empty wrapper for the battery stuck in the lid of the box i had a quick search and i didnt notice the battery anywhere. I was just thinking should i ring dell or ups when i found the battery under the bottom flap of the box. Phew.

To the orginal poster: do you have some kind post box in your house ? maybe somebody knows you regualary recieve stuff in the post.

No, it comes straight through the front door, usually get my stuff delivered to work, but i said i'd get this delivered to home because all the post gets opened here and logged, and i didn't want people knowing what I was getting people as presents. But I won't give a monkeys anymore as long as i get the package

Since there have been a number of thefts you should report each one to An Post, so it is on record.
Also contact ComReg. They might take this more seriously.

Obviously it would be great to know which side of your letterbox that it happens. It would be terrible to blame An Post in the wrong.
