    Hi,

My laptop has suddenly stopped working...I press the power on button the little light goes on but the screen remains totally blank...

I had this problem before and someone mentioned the motherboard might be gone but it suddenly started working again.

The laptop's battery has gone and might be the cause but also I remember when I last shut it down I only had around 250mb space free....

Would low disk space prevent it from starting up at all though.....???

    Thanks for any help!

Well to put your mind at rest, the low disk space would have nothing to do with the laptop not powering on.It's more than likely a screen issue.Does the hard drive LED blink to indicate hard drive activity? I had a similar problem with my Acer Travelmate before, turned out it was a dry joint on the inverter board that powered the LCD backlight.

I had a similar issue with my IBM Thinkpad 600x. Have yet to figure out the issue but they symptom is an extremely dim LCD.

Can you try connecting the laptop up to a monitor to see if it is just an LCD issue?

Find out what keys send the display to external monitor prob. ( Fn F5 ) in case it's just not showing the display on the LCD

on most notebooks the light is a thin fluorscent tube at one side and while they last longer than normal bulbs they still wear out..

hmm so you guys think its working but I'm just not seeing anything? Hmm I often use it to watch divx movies on my TV so I'll check that out.

I don't think its the screen though....after I hit the on button theres no activity from the HD etc...and even though its hooked up to the mains the LED for the mains goes out instantly....

No its definitely nothing to do with the screen...when I press the power on button the "ON" lights up but theres no activity whatsoever from the hard drive etc...no noises ....nothing...??

Just in case it's got lost in suspend mode, have you tried removing the battery and mains for a few seconds and then reconnecting.
