Does anybody here know of a car dismantler/scrapyard/mechanic who has cars from the 1970's and/or 1980's in stock ?

(N.B. - I'm not looking for anything in particular at this stage).

    Cheers,
    Silvera.

Nope - rarely see anything before 88 and then only common stuff like Nissan Bluebirds or Ford fiestas. I've been looking for a tailgate for an '83 Corolla hatchback for nearly a year but no joy. Best to try Blighty for something specific or any of the classic car companies (clandillon/esker etc) for projects.

If you have a specific request throw up a thread and see what happens.

Yeah, because older cars are no longer on the roads in large numbers, car dismantlers don't keep older models to any great degree.

However, I suspect that there my be a few dismantlers around the country that DO have several old cars about the place.

Now if only we knew where they are

I know several dismantlers that have older stuff but most of it has been piled three-high for years and has had lots of stuff stripped off. I was in a breakers on Monday and saw an Opel Ascona, a MkII Escort, a Renault 9, two Minis and a MkI Opel Corsa. This stuff is all rubbish and I didn't even look to see if there were any bits to salvage off the Minis they were so bad. Hang around your local NCT centre and watch for old guys shaking their heads coming out with fails on something you want...

I'm not after anything specific at the moment, but I know many owners of older cars and they often say how hard it is to get s/h spares because so many dismantlers don't keep older models.

It would be good to be able to tell them about breakers that DO have late 70's and early 80's models in stock

    Interceptor,
Where/who was the breakers yard that you mentioned above ?
