    Hey,
I just installed Ubuntu (debian based) after i had severe troubles getting debian itself installed (via sarge installer). Its detected all my hardware nicely, but i want to be able to use the FN key on my laptop, tp access the special buttons like volume up/down, eject CD, screen brightness up/down etc.

Can this be done? My laptop is a Dell Latitude D505.

    Muchos Gracios

You need to use xev to check what keycodes are being passed when you press fn + "a key" then you can remap those keycodes to do various things. Not sure on the sepcifics, but if you google for guides for multimedia keyboards the process should be the same.
