slow downloads in file transfer apps

    hey lads.

    for some reason ive seen people who get fast downloads through bittorrent, kazaa etc.
    when i download from any normal i.e site or through aol, i get usual downlaod speeds from 80kbs - 120 kbps.
    when downloading through kazaa lite + + or bittorrent or bearshare my downloads drop to anywhere from 2kbps to 25kbps..

    never any higher...

    i know that downloading from other people is slower than server's, but they cant be that slow?

    i did a search for a song. really popular song. it came back with like 250 sources for the 1 file...
    it started downloading and 39 mins later i had the file...
    but 39 mins for 1 song?
    ive read sites where people download songs in mere 5 mins max...

    im on a 512 connection, i get great speeds with browsing, and downloads through i.e and aol...

    plz help!

    search boards or google for "port forwarding" + "your broadband router" + "your chosen application"

    Some filesharing apps have options or settings that let you limit the speed you download at check they're not set. Also some of them have options that let you set how fast people can download files from you, the faster other people can download from you, the faster you're allowed download from other people. Even though you're on a 512k line, you upload speed (their download speed is probably only 128k or maybe 256k) so this could be limiting you too.
