I got a gift of a American Region DVD, but I can't play it. I want to try and rip it and copy it as region free. Not too sure what's the best software for the job, any recommendations ? And is it easy enough to do ?

Try a program called "DVD Region Free"

    http://www.dvdidle.com/

Alternatively, you can flash the firmware of your DVD drive with a region free version.

Anydvd is the best program for this I found.

If you manage to do this, would you post how you did it please?
DVD Genie may possibly be of some use, although I think it is just for bypassing software region encoding.

    Hi uch,

Have you tried "unlocking" your DVD player? If not, try this link http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php

It will allow you to play any region DVDs on your player, if it is listed.
