I need some help if anybody can give me some?

I have a new mac laptop (running OS X) and desktop pc (XP) that i want to network (for file sharing and printer sharing).

I have a wireless adsl router with built in modem and firewall. (netgear) which configures the adsl connection. This is connected to the pc by ethernet and the mac wirelessly with the built in 802.11g card. The adsl on both machines is operating perfectly however.

How can i configure both machines now so that i can use the printer connected to the desktop and transfer files?

Anybody able to talk me through this on messenger maybe??

    Thanks

Well easiest thing to try first is sharing files, all you should need to do is literally share a folder in XP,

In the finder on OSX you should be able to click either "go > network" along the tool bar, or open "hard disk" and click the network icon, you should be able to see any machine on the network, once opened should just be a case of dragging n dropping files...

If theres any probs, check any firewalls you may have.

As for printer sharing... well i'll leave that to somone else :P

    Hi,

I have a very similar setup - PC in the attic (XP Home), iMac G5 & Powerbook downstairs linked wirelessly with Netgear ADSL/WiFi/Router box to tie them together.

Unfortunately I've had no success in seeing my printer (hanging off USB on the PC) from the Mac having tried on several occasions to set it up- I can share the DSL link and folders but could never get to the printer. Being of the view that life is short enough without such problems, I moved the printer to hang off the iMac instead. That works fine, but mostly because I haven't had to print from the PC yet (In fact I haven't used it since the iMac arrived).

So don't know if I can share the printer this way either, but I'll give it try later and let you know how I get on.

    dB.
