Buy 2 - great idea. Needs ECC ram. I'd say it would be kinda noisy though.

I love the idea that a second Xeon will cost you €400, while a second machine with the Xeon will cost you €149. I'd also be interested in the difference between Not Included and No Second Processor Option?

anybody out there willing to buy one of these for me today... and ill meet up with the cash and the price of a drink for them or maybe a nice peice of hardware on top of the price ...ive being looking at a dual xeon system for a while and would be mad not to go for this there is something about getting a second cpu free aswell ..

It comes with on board gigabit and if you bought two then you could have a dual processor system with 512KB and the two 80 GB HDD's software mirrored.

Anyone know if you could use both PSU's to get redundancy there too ?

they are sold out, they apparently only had 2,000 of these machines for sale from 9am this morning.

would it be possable to take the cpus from we say two of these dell systems and use them in this motherboard http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon800/E7520/X6DHE-G.cfm or would they not be backward compatable or be the wrong socket pins ...my idea was to buy two off these and then this mobo and set up a SLI setup with two SLI GPU'S but would the cpu's work with this mobo

well unless the guy on the phone was wrong.

The offer was open to the UK and Ireland, so i'd say it was more than likely about 800 people buying 2 machines and say 200 buying only one.

The reason they were being sold off so cheap is that they are no longer producing those servers and the chasis is dated so they sold em off to get rid of the stock.

was still a great offer.


Oh well. Ya can ring up and try to buy one, i left my details on the basis that someone could fail the credit check and then my order would hopefully go through.

Time will tell.

Just let you know, my server arrived, 35KG of pure black metal
I switched it on a little while earlier and the power went out all around, I kid you not. (well actually it was NTL fixing the cable being down)

No funnily , the front and back fan are both 100mm but it very well built . I am loading one up at the moment and will bung all my IDE drives into it , well worth €240 IMO
