    Need help...

    Is it true if you own property for less than 5 years and then decide to rent it out that you have to pay stamp duty?

    And if so does this still apply if you are emigrating?

    I understand part of it is reclaimable by the government, however I think you are into the fuzzy areas when you start introducing emigration into it (the Revenue could simply put an attachment on the deeds) and should take advice from an accountant or solicitor. alternatively the people on askaboutmoney.com might have a better idea.
