    First off i hadnt a clue where to put this,but this problem has been nagging at me for ages and to ask someone on here.My TV is a philips 28inch wide thingamagig and anytime i flick over to either Rte 1 or Rte 2 when there showing a film the Ratio flicks to something like 14:whatever....and i have to flick it back by remote to widescreen...

    Why is it always on rte 1 or 2 it never happens on any other stations...grrrrr...

    I have a sony, and it has a "smart" mode. It automatically senses what the ratio should be for a given program, and switches to that (it also intelligently stretches 4:3 pictures to fill the widescreen). RTE broadcast a lot of stuff in 14:9 ratio, so your tv is probably doing something similar to mine and switching to accommodate the new ratio.

    HTH.

    <edit>
    Oh, you can turn off smart mode on my tv, so I'm sure the same applies to yours....you'll just have to dig out the manual.

    I have a philips widescreen, what your describing sounds like "autoformat" on my telly which does the same as Khannie describes. In the menu I can switch between various modes one of which is 16:9 which stays permantly at 16:9 widescreen.
