If a girl was on the pill for 4 1/2 years and came off it for medical reasons is there a possibility that her next period after she came off it could be late????

    I'd say so, yes.

I think it depends on when she comes off it.
If she's comes off it when she's supposed to, then the period should happen pretty much straight away.
So basically, I think, no, there shouldn't be any delay.

Most definetly it could be late, normally the body clock takes a good while to get back into a rhythm...dont be worried! :)

Thanks for the replies! I am a little worried cos the girlfriend is now EX for about 2 months, but we did meet up and have sex up to recently (don't ask!?!) but I used protection except once when I didn't and she had the runs the following day while on the pill, BUT she has had a period since then.
Anything to worry about now guys??
    Cheers!

What are you looking to be worried about?
If she had a period after you had sex, then she's not pregnant, if that's what you're worried about.

She's 10 days late though. Maybe it is because she came off the pill. Fingers crossed thats what it is!! She's gonna get a test done on Friday if it hasn't come by then!

If the "period" was at a time out of her mentrual cycle then it could be "spotting" and not a period at all, its quite common for women to bleed slightly during the first trimester but it almost always happens at times when the woman wouldn't expect to menstruate.

Depending on the type of pill and more importantly whether periods were regular/irregular before going on the pill, some women may suffer irregular periods (or even no period at all) for several months after stopping.

May be no harm in a pregnancy test though, even just to set your mind at ease.
