Just out of interest, does anyone know how much you can save on drink in general, beer and spirits by shopping up North, is there a big difference price wise in their tescos or lidls as opposed to ours? Or anyone have any suggestions on how to save money buying large amounts down here? Thanks

There was a big article about this in, I think, The Star last weekend.

They went and bought wine, spirits, cans and bottles and compared them.

There was about a 21% price difference on cans and nearly 30% on wine.

    Spirits were about 10% less.

These figures are completely off the top of my head from what I remember of the article so I may have gotten confused with them...

Shopping up North is waaaaay cheaper for booze.

Make sure though you don't go over the customs limit but I reckin that's fairly high if it's for personal use...

Of course there is but you need to be VAT registered and/or have a trade card to get into them.
Even buying at retail costs you'll save a lot, especially if you're buying in bulk.
I try to get down to sainsburys every few weeks to stock up on b33r and that, but it's f**king insane busy the last while...

Please note the customs exemption is for personal consumption only, parties, weddings, etc. don't count.

    Getting Cheap Booze 101:

    1. Book a 2 week holimuday.

    2. Book return Irish Ferry to France

    3. Get a roof box for your car.

    4. Arrive In France, drive to Germania, where you will pay 50c per can, and 60c per 500ml bottle of Erdinger, Fransiskaner, Paulaner etc.

    5. Go slightly further into Germany, to the Rhineland Pfalz region, bottles of seriously good wine (I was surprised how good German wine is, and we are not talking blue nun) for maybe €1.50 a bottle fresh from the vineyard.

    6. Once finsihed, you shuld only be on day 4 of the holimuday, then you can do as you please in Europe until your Ferry is due.

    Or do similar in Spain.

My parents live in newry and at the weekend I went to sainsburys to stock up. The place was packed with southern reg cars, could barely move in the place.

    anyway

    2 crates of grolsh (bottles) - £16 - about E23

    crate of carlsberg (440ml) - £13 - E18

Bottle of Ernest and Jullio Gallo (spelling I know) - £3 - E4.20

    Sainsburys wine (it is nice) - £2.15 - E3

This is what I bought but there's cheap whiskey, vodka other beers etc.

    Can't go wrong there.

You'll also get cheap tins of sweets (around £5.50 - E7.5 for a tin of roses/celebrationds etc) among other stuff.
