I posted about a month ago about putting a WD 200GB drive into an older PC. Specs are:

Compaq presario (approx 4 yrs old)
    AMD Duron 750MHz
64MB RAM (going to be upgraded)
30GB primary master, 200GB WDigital primary slave

I formatted the 30GB and installed W2K. It's now upto service pack 4 and am still installing other updates as I type.

I know about the 48 bit LBA thing...so I made a new entry in the registry EnableBigLba > Reg_Dword > and the value data.

Windows explorer still does not display the drive, even tho it will detect it in the bios, FDISK detects it (i get option 5) and device manager knows there is a second drive.

Do I need a slightly newer BIOS or maybe a PCI controller card? saw one on komplett:
    HighPoint Rocket 133SB 1P ATA133, SKU product code is 111 202, 34 quid.

Is there a patch that WDigital has on there website to enable large drive support?

I will try just the 200GB drive on its own maybe...see it it makes a diff.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks...Dara.

confusing post... ummm does windows see it in the disk managementin admin tools? (computer management).

If so partition and format from there.

comes up as 190,000 odd MB, so the LBA reg setting must have worked along with SP4 for W2K.

so, i have just partitioned it.

    formatting it now.

with a bit of luck when i restart it will appear in 'my computer'

    thanks for the help.
