I am heading to the states and thinking about buying a good laptop over there - works out at about $2000 for a similiar product here priced at €2400.

Are there any pitfalls about doing this?

Warrenty if somthing goes wrong but alot of big brands have world wide warrentys these days. I reckon all laptop PSU's are dual voltage these dyas so all you need to change is the cable.

What one you thinking of getting?

Yeah, warranty is the biggie - if something goes wrong you are buggered. It may be worth the extra to pay for an international warranty.

I bought a lovely HP laptop there a while back and luckily I haven't had a problem. Power isn't an issue either - 99.99% of laptops made nowadays have dual voltage.

The only minor thing I noticed is that my TV-out doesn't do PAL. When I hook it up, I only get black and white at 60Hz with no option to change it to 50Hz. If you expect to play games on the TV with the laptop, make sure it can do PAL.

thanks for the info, will probably go with a Sony or a HP. will organise international warranty on it, and also check out the PAL issue.
