Wondering if there there is anything expensive or scarce in Ireland that I should bring back and that would be in cheap and plentiful supply in the shops or malls NYC or NJ .

buy everything you can get your hands on shopping over there is at least a million times better for shopping, and you'll just regret things if you dont but them.
i managed to get 3 pairs of sketchers runners for $70 (€60) you wouldnt even get one pair of sketchers runners over here for €60

If you could get me a copy of Alien Hominid for the Gamecube I'd be most grateful ;)

Clothes though, seriously. There's outlet malls in and near NYC that sell very cheap good quality (brand name) clothing. Just remember to rip off the tags before you fly back or you might be one of the unlucky people to get stung going through customs.

Some of the dept stores (Macy's/bloomingdales) do international visitor discount cards and give you a free gift too....think you get 15% off everything pretax....you have to go to their customer care centres which tend to be hidden away so ask a sales assitant about it!

I happened to love Macy's but only coz it did all my fav brands....

I was told about the Macys visitor discount scheme already and given a map of the place showing where the desks are . There is a sale on there at the mo and the 15% is in addition to other discounts y'all .

Clothes wise I would get one of everything ...within reason..... but if I'm 3 nights in the country I'll avoid having 4 pairs of shoes in me bag Annette thanks for the idea though ! :) It'll be handbaggage only outbound to the US .

Koneko, if I was to get games I would bring over my CD player and a 'selection' of CD's ......in a rather empty Multi CD Case . I would insert the DVD or CD for the game into the case where It'll be safe ...trust me. I could then bring myself to get some all right .

I would post the manuals and the cases home as they are 'worthless' in themselves , how does that ploy sound ? Any recommendations on a reasonable game shop downtown around Macys or heck ....Macys itself allowing that I get the discount.

Also , If you venture into NJ there is no tax on clothing as there is in NY .

Aye, if you happen to go ahead with that plan and can fit in a copy of said game for me, lmk (it's $30 in Gamestop).

The outlet sharkman mentions is the one I was thinking of. Bargains to be had!

    Woodbury is over rated.

Go over to NJ for the outlet malls.

I've heard it said that a serious shopping gig is

Assemble 4 shoppers and issue with plane tickets

    1. Fly to Newark (in NJ) stay away from NY (or else fly to Orlando which also has lots of Malls)
    2. Hire a car (big one)
    3. Drive around within 20 miles of Airport and shop like a bastard. Dog it.
    4. Stay in local motel . You will be tired every evening :)
    5. Everyone walk thru customs in Dublin at the same time with their shedload of stuff.

    6. If one gets pulled (possible) everyone pools together for that persons customs hit......but its still worth it as only one person will be pulled and the customs have to guesstimate the price to an extent . Are you together ? Noooooooooo . Dont all buy the same brands of luggage though :)

And whatever you do, don't try to get back into Manhattan between 4-7pm on a weekday! Two hours sitting on the bus before the river (is it the NJ turnpike? can't remember) is not pleasant. Especially when you are late for work!!

woodbury common is amazing its in the catskills mountains I know thats not how you spell it when I was there there was snow on the ground but New York was warmer :D . I went there one morning and didnt leave till all hours that night and I am not a mad shopper. Got loads of bargains. Sign up on line to receive the vip book of discounts print out the email they send you and you will get extra discounts when you get there just go to the little customer service desk in woodbury. I handed my little piece of paper in and was given the booklet that others were paying $10 for :D. Swarovsky crystal is really cheap there as are branded footwear Timberland, Nike, Sketchers, etc. Levis are really cheap too. Lucky you.... have a great time Im jealous
