Floppy Drive error

I just built a new PC for a friend.
The Floppy Drive I bought has very few pins on the lower level, most of the connectors are GND.
The drive partly reads some floppies but doesnt read others.
I have verified the motherboard and cables are operational so the problem lies with the Drive.
Anyone see a Floppy drive like this missing nearly half the pins on the back ?
I knoe a new drive is cheap but time is of value .
Any ideas what may be up ?

Head may be misaligned on either the new drive or the old one.
Try it with a pre-formatted disk if it can't read these then it may well be misaligned, it's a stepper motor so not really user adjustable.

To test the drive - format a blank disk in it - not a quick format and copy a large file on to it and then try to copy that file in a known working drive.

None of the disks are 720's are they ? (one hole at the top)

It reads a preformatted disc but only the top directory level,no further.
I cant format any disc as it fails early on.
I think I may have to start tinkering with my screwdriver to realign the head.

If it reads the top directory the head is aligned OK
sounds like the head may not be moving back and forth
