Turned on RTÉ 2 yesterday at 2 o' clock and ran into a double bill of "Small Ville" consisting of the last two episodes of the series ie from when really fast girl learns to walk through walls.

so whats the deal, was it advertised at all and does this mean they've got the new series or are they just finishing what they took a break from in May.
Can anybody shed any light on what's going on?

Sorry Dave, but that was Season 3's final episodes, where Emily Dinsmore returns and obsesses over Lana again, and then Kara comes to Smallville and wreaks havoc. Anywho i'm afraid Penguinbloke, that is the 2nd time RTE2 have repeated Season 3, it might even be the third time. Not too sure about it, since i watch Smallville on E4, coz they R constant with airdates.

When RTE2 showed Season 3 the first time they showed it on Sunday's too, so i fear it must be down on ratings. There prolly is a chance they dont have Season 4, but i guess if they have any money left over for purchasing shows, they will prolly throw it @ the WB. They will more than likely show it @ that stupid time on Sundays though, so it will be cut to shreds.

Anywho still like the show but the reviews of Lois Lane aren't good. I guess i will have 2 wait and see myself.

Ooops, your right. I was thinking of the first ep with Emily Dinsmore which was towards the end of Season 2. (Third last ep I think)

The last 'new' episodes I saw of Smallville were when the Magnificent Bastard (Lionel Luther, of course) went to prison and had his stone cold badass hair cut off. Has the next series since then been shown on E4 or RTE? If not, when will it return on either channel? Thanks.

    S4 hasn't been on either E4/C4 or RTE2 yet.

E4 usually start the new season in January, so it should be on fairly soon!

No worries Dave, your right, Emily did appear first, in S2's third last ep, called Accelerate.

Anywho, i emailed E4, and they said they have no confirmed airdate as of yet, for Season 4, so i guess we will have to wait.

BTW can anyone give me a definitive answer as to why the U.S. doesn't air shows @ the same time, on both sides of the Atlantic.
It's not as if they have to pay for a live broadcast, all they have to do is stick the tape in an envelope, and ship it here to RTE2, and to E4 in the U.K., so what's the deal.

Come to think of it, i guess they want to wait and see what the ratings R, so if the show does well, they can stick E4 & RTE2 for more MOOLA, for the rights.

I suppose it will never change, but we can live in hope that it does eventually

Depends on the show, Norbert. Sometimes we are only a week or 2 behind the states (Friends etc.), sometimes were are several months (Smallville etc.). Schedules can be erratic in the states, with shows taking extended breaks (Lost is now off for 4 weeks, so is The OC). TV Channels here (apart from RTE2 ) like to show TV series straight through without breaks in the schedule.

    - Dave.

Yep, that's about it. The only other issue is that some channels have an exclusive window with rights, so if Sky One chose to extend UK and Ireland rights on a particular show, they could have it the January after the US season began (usually September), but another broadcaster like the BBC or RTE might not be allowed to screen the same show until May. (Sky don't extend such rights often, but it has happened.)

The most common cause is UK and Irish channels wanting to have a complete run without breaks, though. (Except from the look of things downloads-wise, many of us on this side of the Atlantic don't have much patience!)

Actually Lois Lane is the best thing about season 4. She's very good and perfectly cast. Everything else is pretty terrible. I've been very dissapointed so far. I haven't seen a good show go this bad since season 5 of Babylon 5... and I don't say that lightly...!

Oh yeh, forgot about Friends being very close. Cheers for the info guys. I guess U.S. airdates R very erratic sometimes, with shows going off air for no reason or taking a hiatus over the summer months.
Although, it wouldn't be that hard for RTE to cover an open slot coz of some show on hiatus etc. I'm sure we all know they have a backlog of less than great shows that they could use as fillers.

Anywho the OC S2 has kind of been suggested for the 20th to 27th in January, so here's hoping Smallville S2 will be shown from around the same time.

Yah the states seem to take a break a lot with their TV shows. One Tree Hill and Smallville had episodes last week but they don't return til around January 25th.
