Why are DSL speeds slow here?

Over in Paris for the weekend, and noticed billboards for unlimited 8MBit ADSL for €14.90 per month.

Are French lines more advanced than ours that they can handle this extra capacity or is this another of Eircom dragging their feet by not offering something with similar speed?

Feet have been dragged since the announcement of the introduction of dsl years ago.
Once they announced it was finally on the way, late, they heavily invested in advertising isdn lines everywhere - and they advertised them as "digital". Then, once DSL started, they charged all those people to remove the isdn lines. Nice one eircom - blah.

AS long as the COMREG gives them the space to mess the industry over here up, they will do it. They will milk every stage of implementation for what it's worth until they are forced to move onto the next thing.

Wireless Broadband is the future. Take eircom out of the equation - they STILL have too much control on the system for a company who have performed miserably where rollout of new technology is concerned.
