Replacing radio with something better in slk

That will allow you to connect your ipod. The other alternative is a mini fm transmitter, the advantage of that is you don't need to wire the ipod up to the stereo but the sound is not quite as good and you can get interference if it is tuned to the same frequency as a radio station.

incarexpress are very cheap and several people on boards have used them and were happy with the service.

few guys on ebay sells AUX in cable for half the price of this one from incarexpress

Thanks a mil guys. I'll put the order through later. I'll order a DIN tool as well to remove the existing radio, so hopefully it'll be a painless procedure.

    Hi,

I've just picked up a used SLK 230 and am looking to replace the tape deck that came with it.

Another thread mentioned http://www.caraudio.ie , who seem to sell what I need.

I want to be able to play mp3 cds and have an external connector somewhere for an ipod. I've always had good experiences with Pioneer stuff, so was thinking about getting this:

    http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=DEHP3600MP

as the head unit and this:

    http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=IPRCA

to provide an interface to the ipod. Is that all I need? Is it difficult to fit it myself?

    thanks,

    s

What about Alpine? They have a custom iPOD adaptor to control the ipod from the unit - which if wired properly and your SLK has CANBUS would mean integrated steering controls to a limited degree, but certainly the Alpine is better for linking to your ipod, as it's a hardware agreement they have, much like the similar Nokia integration.

If you are interested in getting an MB MP3/CD/aux-for-ipod like the above units mentioned you could consider a COMAND which would probably be a lot slicker, but more expensive by a lot - maybe €800-1000. Check out mbclub.co.uk and mbworld.org and have a look at the forums for advice on MBs and so on.

Example: Alpine unit with iPOD adaptor http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84369

No I don't have an Alpine myself BTW but it looks cool to have a designed in spec for ipod as opposed to just an aux!

The Alpine thing seems good, but I can't say for certain if I'll always be using an iPod. Been looking at picking up an iRiver. So I think the aux input is probably the best bet.

Thanks though, I know someone who would be very interested in picking one of those up.

i would go for standard aux-in cable as you can connect other players.

The thing about controlling your ipod from the head unit sounds great but in reality you will probably end up scrolling through 5000 songs on every set of lights and end up listening to the radio

Yeah that is very true, and the display area on the head units can be quite small, max maybe 2 lines unless it's a GPS/navi headunit.

TBH I am still using tape adaptor for MP3 myself! But I'd love someone to get some fancy tech to try out and tell us all! :)

Well this isn't going to be at all fancy, but if I do get it working I'll take photos :)

SSH I'm looking into adding COMAND to my E220

Did you go down this route in the end ?
