I was doing a Google search and I came across this website:

    http://www.boards.jp/

It's like stepping into a parallel universe or something. :D

What's the connection with boards.ie?

Was it started by DeVore too?

    That's quite an eye-opener actually.
I'd like to know that the link is between the two.

Bound to be one of three things:
    • They copied us
    • We copied them
    • Both sites got their design from a template.

    Which is it?

Probably option 1, but with "us" and "them" actually being the one: "Cloud".

www.boards.us uses phpBB, not vBulletin I notice.

    "Get on the bus" :D

Both Boards.jp & Boards.us were started by Cloud.

A lot of people using ntl and UTV as ISP appear to be counted as accessing form the UK. dotcoms (including things like ie.ibm.com) default to the USA.

it'd be cool if you could use the one account to access boards.ie, boards.jp and boards.us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

I dont know if that would be possible with boards.us as it uses a different bulletin boards program, but it would be cool though.

what are the chances of a british boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,007 ✭✭✭Moriarty

boards.co.uk / boards.org.uk are already taken, which would prove problematic.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,731 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Is it absolutely necessary to use the co/org etc. bits in British addresses? If you tried to register something like www.boards.uk what would happen?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 10,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭ecksor

A big van full of burly men would come around to your house and beat the living daylights out of you.

Anyway, that's not important. One day we'll have http://www.boards.gov.uk/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

    you can't register blah.uk
it has to be co.uk/ac.uk/org.uk etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

suppose you could register www.boards.eu soon enough.

It's using phpBB though instead of vBulletin (.us is)

Obviously it's not important enough to purchase another licence for vB ;)

It's interesting though. Cloud's avatar on .jp is cool though

Wow, boards.jp! The target audience, Irish in Japan??
Just wondering, becuase it is not in Japanese.

(I've never been to Japan, so I am just curious I guess. Do a lot of Japanese people speak English)

Nothing to do with Ireland per se iirc.

Mostly an anime & manga forum, but has recently expanded quite a bit by the looks of things.

    at the bottom
boards.jp was founded as Manga to Anime on 02-02-01. The admins are Cloud and BakaMattSu. Our mascot is Miia, designed by Skuld.
