New build to be used for Video, music, gaming and net. Any one recommend a CPU, Pentium or AMD. Also a graphics and sound cards and a motherboard and PSU. Any suggestions would be brilliant.

Video, is that playing video files, encoding them or what? This will probably answer your CPU/Mobo/RAM question. How much are you prepared to spend. Do you have any PC parts already(e.g. Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, Case..etc). Graphics Card will depend on your budget because the top of the range cards are expensive.

    Otherwise:
PSU: Antec/Fortron/Tagan/Hiper/Enermax are good brands, Avoid Q-Tec and Codegen, poor brands. 400W PSU's is whats required really these days.

Sound Card: Audigy. No competition really. Get the Audigy2 is you have the money but the first audigy is cheap and still a very good card.

Sorry about the incomplete info. Playing videos is what I will use it for. I have Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers
    But no case. I will spend 500 – 600 E’s.

    Thanks for the info Dempsey

Right so at most your will to part with 600 if it has all the bells and whistles but would prefer to be only spending 500. This has to get CPU/Mobo/RAM/Case/PSU/Hard Drive(s). It will be hard to get all these for under 600.

Im thinking Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939(~€155), EPoX EP-9NDA3+ (~€125) Fortron 400W (~€65). As for RAM id recommend buying one stick of 512Mb and someday when ya win the lotto  you can get another 512Mb to make up a matching pair. 512Mb DDR RAM, PC3200, 184 pins - OCZ (~132)

Thats €477 so excluding hard drive,GFX card(forgot about that one) and a case, do you need a hard drive?

Its a bit much but if you want to keep it under 600, you'll probably have to get a Athlon XP-m instead

Im not up on case so maybe someone else can recommend one for ya

What do ya think so far?

Thanks, looks great. Not much experience with parts and prices, 500 - 600 was a figure picked out of the air, I think I'll be able to stretch to the 2 sticks if ram before I win the lotto :D. I have a hard drive so I'll be Ok for that.

    Also anandtech.com has useful "guides".
They're both a bit US oriented as regards price and availability though

Id say you should spend no more than €100 on a case, that should be more than enough for one then Graphics cards...I would like to recommend an x800(€400) or a 6800(€350) but they will push the price up to around 900-1000. It would be the business but if you what to keep the price down i get a 9800Pro(€202) or a 6600(€265). I havent seen the performance of a 6600, is it good value/performance for money ?
