Windows Sockets Initialization failed

hi. after uninstalling some nasty adware on win2k i got the following msg on reboot: "Windows Sockets Initialization failed", leaving me without an internet connection. From what i gather, i have lost my tcp/ip dump (info from various sites). how do i go about reinstalling tcp/ip? or are there any other fixes?

had to do this last week - but it's for XP not 2k

reinstalled tcp/ip. still got same error. my reg editor is also corrupt (coponents missing). this is a business pc, so if anyone can get me up and running for tomorrow that would be appreciated!
