Its not that they're not good musicians or anything far from it but I can't help but feel there over-hyped(mainly because of Kurt's suicide)that also goes for the beetles but I do like Nirvana and the Beetles(Not Alot)

If you have £12.50 to spare, head along to the Nirvana tribute band in the olympia this friday. ( I think its the australian tribute band ) They are absolutely brilliant. See if you still think they are overhyped.

Nirvana defined quality music for the nineties similarly to the way that U2 defined quality music for the eighties. No band of that kind of stature and enjoying that kind of widespread success; being that downright mind-blowingly GOOD; has emerged in the past few years.

It's about time we had another one. When I was a young teenager I listened to Nirvana; when people ten years older than me were that age they listened to U2. Now kids that age listen to "nu-metal", Slipknot and Limp Bizkit and what have you. The difference is that I can go back now, listen to a Nirvana or U2 album, and it's genuinely amazingly good; it wasn't all about being angry, or about being a teenager, because the music was there as well. In ten years time, how many twenty-somethings will be listening to Slipknot or Limp Bizkit?

F*ck all of them, that's how many. Bands that appeal to angry misunderstood hormonal 14 year olds purely on the grounds of content, and not through genuinely good music; bands which have nothing good to say about the world (much of Nirvana, U2 et al was HAPPY music, ponder that for a moment)... they don't last.

during the weekend, i watched a documentary on pop music through the ages (monkees, abba etc.). When they finally got to the nineties, some moron they interviewed claimed nirvana were bad for music cos everyone became depressed.
what a load of horseshi+. abba make me depressed, nirvana make me happy. they deserve all the hype they can get

Durty auld Morris drums... they're fu*kin' great!!

I know ill get flamed, but Nirvana are overrated (on these boards anyway).
They had one pretty damn album. The others didnt go anywhere near the success of Nevermind because they werent really as good as it.
I will cede that Nirvana pretty much defined a genre, but to say they defined quality music in the nineties is laughable.
If Kurt had not killed himself, they may have gone on to prove me wrong, but they may also have gone on to become the 90's equivalent of Guns and Roses.

Another thing that annoys me about them is they are another band that watered down the 'unplugged' series. but thats for another topic.

I was at the last tribute gig in the Olympia with the celtic tiger and gerry. It was really good and I was well impressed with their performance. I am counting down the days till June 2nd. TCT had to be "escorted" out for rowdy behaviour at the last gig!! biggrin.gif

nope, didn't even know it was on.
you very rarely hear a band do Nirvana covers, not to mind a tribute band.

btw do you know what my username means? smile.gif

I borrowed nevermind out of my brother's hi-fi one day, had no idea who nirvana where, or what their history was. Listened to that cd, and kept it playing almost constantly all summer long. I had no idea w tf kurt was or that he was dead, didnt find out for a long time.

This topic makes me depressed , No band can top Nirvana ! There music was as shinji put it "downright mind-blowingly GOOD" which is true , Sure kurts suicide did attract more people and made them out to be crazy etc , but there not the true fans . There just wannabes .

Well it's not like it took Kurts suicide to make them successful, and all dem purrdy' albums and tours are a testament to that.
Who cares if they got massive amounts of attention over kurt offing himself, it's like... about the music 'n stuff man. biggrin.gif
