Hi. i have just received an eircom broadband router (netopia cayman 3346) and am trying to connect a pc running RedHat 8.0 personal ed.

in network config i find eth0 which is deactivated. when i click activate, it kicks in after approx 1min delay, but deactivates shortly after.

can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

I'm using a 3346 here. Have you tried giving you pc a fixed ip address ?.
Something like 192.168.1.88 should work fine and point your gateway to the ip address of the 3346, probably 192.168.1.254 . You may also need to dns servers in your /etc/resolv.conf file.

i think my problem could be that linux is only finding an onboard ethernet adapter (not a full card) not my NIC. how can i get linux to install this for me?

I have a Zyxel Prestige 623 that came with Esat broadband I can use it fine with fedora care 2 and it worked fine with red hat 9. You can use it with the ethernet port. as far as i know the USB port doesn't work. I haven't really looked into it.

Same as Syth here. I've had it working with Fedora Core 2 and Suse 9.1 Pro. The ethernet port should work fine with most if not all linux distros. I haven't tried the usb connection so I can't comment on it.

    Cheers
    Rory
