following on from the recent gaming mouse recommendations i was wondering if people could do the same for gaming mouse mats.

the mother is looking for stuff to get me for xmas and i think a new mouse mat and mouse is in order i'm looking at the razer diamondback or logitech mx510 mouse wise but i'm not sure what mouse mat to combine it with.

    any suggestions

    cheers

If you get an optical mouse you need no mate (sic)

Unless your playing on a surface that doesnt have any disctinctive features.

Even so i prefer playing on a mouse mat. Personally use an alienware one and must say i love the smoothness of i. That said im sure there are ones that are just as good out there which dont have the expensive alienware logo ;)

i've had an icemat and whilst they are good at keeping you hand cold they are essentially glass so if you do get one prepare for a big clean up.

on the other hand i can't say good enough things about the func1030.

    1. nice size
    2. two sided (rough/smooth)
    3. mouse cable clip (good for unessary friction with cable and desk)

Have the icemat v2 my self. Its nice and the biggest mat i have used. Its very cold to touch but warms up after a few mins with your hand been on it.

I like using a mat with my optical mouse. I just use the plain rubber/fabric ones Alsop I think make them.

    One note to the wise:

Do not do gaming with a mousemat that has a hollogram effect on it.. as hollograms are made up of corrigated plastic this can diflect the laser of an optical mouse causing the mouse to jump slightly... terrible when your proned in a critical sniping postion and you need every bit of accuracy cos you've only got one shot at the enemy!

that alienware func mousepad is much cheaper than the func 1030 in overclockers i presume they are not the same thing or something?

actually jes have the func 1030 for only 23 euro not to shabby

I have an Razer eXactMat and I love it. It has two side, control and speed and is nice and big. Theres a massive difference between the two. The control side is great for general computer use and the speed side is perfectly smooth and is great for FPS.

I have an x-trac pro HS and I think it's the biz. I bought it online from their spanish reseller (who was very fast with delivery) after reading lots of good reviews.

Have to say, before I read the reviews, I wasn't convinced of the need for it, but was afterwards and haven't looked back.

data my good man if your going mouse crazy these mouse bungees are really good also.
they'll be good with a new setup.

many opinions here still not sure what to go for

like the look of that mouse bungee deno, i currently use a wireless mouse and going back to a corded one was a concern, i see that www.jes.de stock it i think i'll put it on the xmas list

still not sure between mx510 or diamonback yet though let alone the mouse mat decision decisions :)

As with many people I have one of the fUNC mousemats alienware sponsor LANs with.

Very impressed, have never had to use the whole thing, though don't like the mouseclip and never use the rough side.

Soft side + good optical mouse = Win.

if you get the mouse clip with the alienware one go for it.

plus it's the other way round i prefer

rough side + MS EXP V3.0 = "Teh WinZ"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

right lads thanks for all the suggestions in the end i went for

    a logitech mx510
that blue and orange func 1030 (was cheap on jes)
    the func anti friction liquid
    and a mouse bungee

added a 200gb s-ata WD into the order as well which is only on order atm hopefully won't delay it too much

    cheers again

    btw, abotu func friction liquid,

you know those things that you polish your shoes with right? like a sponge?

I use those to clean my pad and it does an awesome job! IMHO better than func friction liqued.

good buy man, when you get the mouse mat set up the clip as per instructions it's really good and there's no need for the bungee.

as for the pad itself try both sides out. it does say somewhere that the smooth is for rollerballs and the rough is for opticals but whatever way you think suits you is better than any infomation.

hope you have many hours of friction free gaming :D
