Download Spybot and Ad-Aware, you can get them both form www.downloads.com , also check the registry startup settings to see exactly what is being run at startup, if there is anything you don't recognize do a web search to find out what it is, there may be a virus.

I was in a hotel in Toronto last week, and they had one PC in the business center. It was riddled with spyware (a popup ad on every single page you visited).

So I thought, ok... I'll do them a favour and clean it for them. Downloaded adaware and ran it (with the intention of running Spybot afterwards to finish the job).

Ran it, and it found 700 objects (it looked like they were collecting spyware!). When I went to quarantine them, the system locked up and a full screen closeup of female genitalia was displayed on screen, and the keyboard wasn't responding to ctrl-alt-del...

Rebooted the PC, and the desktop was restored. Most of the spyware was removed, but it seems there is something else there (maybe a virus?) and I didn't have the time to investigate.

umm do NOY attempt to ever remove spyware (unless only a little bit) unless you are in safe mode... otherwise some of its running and cant be removed and also other processes are running and as soon as part is deleted it pops back...

    SAFE mode people!!

go to www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ and use the tools there. Also get the blocker software once clean from www.javacoolsoftware.com

yeah got it sorted with ad aware might try spybot just to be safe. Was a bi*ch though like you said i tried using it in windows normal boot and after about 2mins of scanning a window came up telling me my computer is a about to shut down and gave a minute timer, so i went to safe mode and tried it and i found 698 threats couldnt believe it. whats worse is the thought of some sorry fool out there actually writing these things just to annoy people

you sure you dont also have a virus? when you get that shutdown message it usually means you have the blaster or sasser virus.. make sure you are all patched up with windows update

This doesnt always work either....my sister's PC is infected with the win-eto hijacker and this is even running in Safe Mode...

Best thing to avoid all that rubbish is to stop using IE!!...get Mozilla, Firefox, Opera...anything ...just don't use IE.

For infected systems did anyone see this?
