I am installing a p4 2.4 cpu into a motherboard and have problems boting which is down to overheating as if i boot like this morning from cold it boots but if i reset it no.I have no hdd in so when i say boot i mean to hdd /cdrom detection page .

Now when i built the brothers one there was a lot of resistance when putting the arms down but with this its easier and both are defo into their receptables properly on the motherboard.
    Am i doing something wrong?
is there differnt heatsinks or heatsink holders?

    Its Driving me nuts!!

    HI kmb,

the only heatsinks with different fittings are normally the overweight ones, as they need more fixture to the Mobo.
IT seems weird that there wasn't much resistance, but are you sure the heatsink is for P4 procs?

make sure that there are no airbubbles in the Thermal paste, once applied, this can cause hotspot and negates the purpose of the thermal compound
