My son (16) is starting his new weekend job next week and is thrilled (McD's!!)

He needs a bank account, like, by tomorrow :D ,though the poor boy has to wait an age before being paid, two weeks but never mind.

I'm with the Permanent TSB but they don't offer student banking - any suggestions?

well student banking is reallty for 3rd level students. and most braches require him to make an apointment. a proof of address and a photo id (passport) is needed. in my experiance AIB have been very helpfull opening accounts

  • UNder 18's has to be Bank of ireland.

They even pay the stamp duty themselves!
Only bank which actually has "Zero Charges"

AIB, BoI both have student banking.
I was with AIB as a student but never really made use of their student services, apart from the free banking.
I'm sure they'd be fine for what he needs.
Couldn't tell you how long it'll take to set up.

I would have thought most 16 year olds would have a bank account.
But it probably needs to be a current account and not a savings account.

Why would your average 16 year old already have a bank account????

He only need it for his wages to be paid into - I wonder if it does have to be a current account, maybe a post office savings account would be OK

  • I'm with AIB and i'm telling you to go for BoI. They even pay tax on the account for you! You get a banklink card, internet banking and everything.

    Do it!
